Carl Nelson

Carl Nelson, who grew up in Clermont and farmed there, died Nov. 30 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, where he and his wife had lived since his health began to fail in 1982.

He was born November 19, 1896 in Allamakee County, the son of Christian and Hilga (Torgerson) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He grew up in the Clermont area, working for many people.

He served in the Army during WW I. On Oct. 16, 1926 he married Carrie Francis Everett at West Union. They had 2 children.

After their marriage they rented a farm near Clermont and he also worked for the County, driving a tractor. Several years later they rented a farm from his brother Elliot. Later they purchased land which they gradually built up to the farm they lived on until 1961.

He received his education at a rural school and also graduated from the Auto Mechanic School in Kansas City. He enjoyed reading, visiting with people, the outdoors and the woods.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, five brothers and one half sister.

Surviving is his wife, Carrie, his son Roy C., of Decorah, his daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Evelyn) Kyle, Fairfield, 2 half sisters, Selma Schierholz, Postville and Clara Belssum, Arlington and 4 grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 2 at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona with Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiating. Pall bearers were Stephen Nelson, Richard and Eric Kyle, James and James Miller and Allan Bacon. Honorary pall bearers were Roger Miller and Hilery Heins. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
