Henry Nicoli Nelson and Anna Mae Nelson

Funeral services for Henry Nelson, 87, and Anna Mae Nelson, 71, were held Monday, December 2, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont. The Rev. Donald Loots officiated. Patricia Butikofer was the organist and Arthur Amundson was the soloist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Gods Acres Cemetery.

Henry Nicoli Nelson was born June 6, 1904 and Anna Mae Nelson was born August 14, 1920, near Clermont, IA, son and daughter of Christ P. and Martha (Hanson) Nelson. They died Thursday, November 28, 1991, as the result of an automobile accident near Winona, MN.

Henry was baptized and confirmed at the East Clermont Lutheran Church and attended the rural school near his home. He worked as a farm laborer in the Clermont area and moved to Clermont in the 1940s. For the past several years he had been employed by Clermont Implement and most recently had been the custodian there.

Anna Mae was baptized at the East Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. She attended the Public School in Clermont and lived her entire life in the Clermont area. For the past several years she had been employed by Iowa Turkey Products in Postville.

They are preceded in death by their parents and four sisters: Helen Bass (Mrs. Farrell), Melvina Lauer (Mrs. Fritz), Ethel Thompson (Mrs. Tilmer) and Lillian Nelson (Mrs. William, Sr.).

Surviving is a sister, Bessie Palas (Mrs. Lavern) of West Union, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers for Anna Mae Nelson were James Bass, Henry Thompson, Ronald Thompson, Gary Bass, Henry Monroe, Jr. and David Palas.

Casket bearers for Henry N. Nelson were Allen Johnson, James Massman, James Matt, Roger Koenig, Robert Meyer, and Jeff Reierson.

HOLIDAY CRASH CLAIMS 4

Two Clermont residents died Thanksgiving Day in a multi-car accident on I-90 in southeastern Minnesota.

Henry Nelson, 87, and Anna Mae Nelson, 71, were among the four fatalities that resulted from the accident near Dresbach, MN, about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28.

The two other fatalities were Gary Smith, 48, and his wife, Sharon, 33, of LaCrosse, WI.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the car driven by Anna Mae Nelson was eastbound in the west-bound lane of I-90 when it collided with the Smith vehicle.

Both Henry and Anna Mae Nelson and Gary Smith were pronounced dead at the scene. Mrs. Smith was taken to St. Francis Hospital in LaCrosse, where she died later.

Two other vehicles were also involved in the accident, but no additional injuries were reported.

A state patrol spokesman reported road conditions were clear at the time.
