Arla "Joanna" Vontalge, 79, of Wadena, Iowa, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Volga with the Rev. Paul R. Peters as Mass celebrant.

Inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Wadena.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader. A rosary service will begin at 5 p.m.

Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, is handling the arrangements.

Joanna (Corkery) Vontalge was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Clarion to William and Nica (Fay) Corkery.

On May 23, 1959, she married Donald Vontalge at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wadena.

After teaching in the Valley Community School District for 23 years, Joanna retired in 1988.

Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant brother, Gregory; and two sisters, Barb Vincent and Jane Wheeler.

Joanna is survived by her husband, Donald, of Wadena; a daughter, Pat (Mike) Smith of Arlington; a son, John (Alice) Vontalge of Epworth; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Also surviving are her twin sister, Jeanne Singer of Fayette; six brothers, William (Marilyn) of Coggon, Charles (Ila Lee) of Manchester, Paul (Beverley) of Dysart, Ellis of Lisbon, Tim and Steve (Kathy), both of Wadena; many nieces and nephews.
