Donald D. Torson, 61, of Elgin, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, at Illyria Community Church, rural Elgin. The Rev. Rick Johnson officiated.

Burial was in the Illyria Cemetery, rural Elgin.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Duane Torson was born April 23, 1948, in West Union to Virgil and Nona (Kerr) Torson. He graduated from Valley High School in 1966 and attended the University of Northern Iowa for two years.

Don worked in the food industry for most of his life and enjoyed baking and cooking. His greatest joy in life was music. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.

Don was a member of Illyria Community Church for many years.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Torson; an infant brother, Mark Torson; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Survivors include his mother, Nona Torson of Elgin; two brothers, Roger (Janice) Torson of Hiawatha and Randy (Katherine) Torson of Elgin; an aunt, Kathleen Williams of Independence; many nieces and nephews.
