WEST UNION la., Jan. 5.---Special:
H. B. Hoyt, a prominent pioneer and president
of the Fayette County Savings bank
and vice president of the Fayette County
National bank here, died yesterday after
an illness of ten days. The Rev W O
Ruston, pastor of the First Presbyterian
church of Dubuque will officiate at the
funeral, which, will be held Saturday.
Hiram B. Hoyt was born in Ridgefield,
Falrfield county, Conn., Dec. 17, 1830 On
Feb. 22, 1853, he married Miss Juliet
Kent at South Hero, Vt., and in the fall
of that year came to Fayette county
He engaged in farming until 1868, when
he moved to West Union and engaged in
the hardware business under the firm
name of Hoyt & Holton. which connection
was continued until 1878, when Mr.
Hoyt purchased his partner's interest and
continued the business alone until 1890,
when ho sold to his son and nephew.
In 1873 Mr. Hoyt lost his wife, who
died in April of that year, leaving three
children, one son and two daughters. Mr.
Hoyt was again married Nov. 22, 1876, In
Milwaukee, to Miss Hattie A. Booth, a
native of Albany. N. Y. Two children.
daughters, have been born to the latter
marriage.
