Andrew Ritchie was born in Janesville,
Wis., Oct. 14, 1855, and died at
his home, 613 Jefferson Street, Waverly,
Iowa. December 20, 1922, at
12:15 p. m., having reached the age
of 67 years, 2 months and 7 days.
He came with his parents to Fayette
County, when he was six years
of age and lived in that county until
three years ago, when he moved with
his family to Waverly.
In 1882 he was married to Cora
Leech, and to them, were born two
children, one of whom passed away
in infancy.
On March 6, 1888 Mrs. Ritchie died.
On July 21, 1892, Mr. Ritchie was
married to Emma D. Ferrin. This
union was blessed with three children.
Mr. Ritchie was a member of the
Modern Woodmen of America and the
Royal Neighbors.
He was converted when a young
man and united with the United
Brethren Church near Westgate and
remained a member of that church
until his death.
Having no church of his denomination
in Waverly, he regularly attended
the Evangelical church and
showed great interest in its activities.
The members and friends of the Evangelical
church have appreciated his
fellowship and will greatly miss him
from their circle.
Mr. Ritchie has been in failing
health for some time and early this
fall he submitted to a serious operation
but with no avail.
During his lingering illness he was
lovelingly cared for by his wife and
children.
He was a patient sufferer and
throughout his illness bore definite
testimony to his faith in Christ as.a
comforter and Savior.
On Wednesday noon he responded
to the summons of his Lord and Master.
He leaves to mourn his death, his
wife, four children; Mrs. Mabel Baker,
of Atwood, Colo.; Lillian, Everett
and Howard who are at home, two
brothers Adam of Fayette, and Arthur
of Westgate, one sister, Mrs. George
Edwards, two half sisters, Mrs. Margaret
Hatch and Miss Mary Ritchie of
Westgate, two grandchildren, besides
many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at the
Murphy church of the United Brethren
denomination, Saturday forenoon
at 10:30. The services were in charge
of Rev. P. W. Pfaltzgraff, who was
assisted by Rev. Vine of Sumner.
