DODGE, FIEHLER, OLDFATHER, SNIFFEN, WARD

ARLINGTON - Filetta R. Dodge. 93, formerly
of Arlington, died Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Western
Home Martin Center, Cedar Falls, after a long illness.
She was born April 17,1909, in rural Arlington,
daughter of Richard and Maria Magdalena
"Lena" Fiehler Oldfather. She married Julian
LaVerne Dodge on June 4, 1939. He died Oct. 27,
1984.
Mrs. Dodge was a 1927 graduate of Arlington
High School, then continued her education at
Upper Iowa University, Fayette, where she
received her standard elementary teacher's certificate in 1929 and
her bachelor's degree in 1932. She began her teaching career teaching
fourth grade at Fayette Consolidated Public School from 1929 to
1935; then moved to Waterloo where she was a fourth-grade teacher
at Emerson and Kingsley Elementary Schools from 1935 to 1939.
Later she worked on a war service appointment at the employment
office and records department at Kelly Field, Texas, and in 1946
moved to Chicago where she worked for the Schutter Candy Co.
from 1946 to 1958. She later worked for the Brach Candy Co. from
1958 until retiring in 1975.
Survived by: a sister, LaVerle Sniffen of Evansdale.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Donna Ward.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home,
with burial in Taylorsville Cemetery, both in Arlington. Friends
may call for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral
home.
