Former Sumner Woman Dies October 21

Mrs. Arthur Steggall, 55, a former Sumner resident, died Friday, October 21, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness. She had been a patient there for five days prior to her death.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. at the Beatty-Berle Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Monday, October 24, and burial was in the Hazelton Cemetery beside her husband.

She was born Lulu Hoth, daughter of the late Herman and Lena Barth Hoth, on April 21, 1905 here at Sumner, Iowa. She graduated from Sumner High School with the class of 1923 and was a rural school teacher after her graduation.

She married Arthur Steggal on October 15, 1925, and he preceded her in death November 23, 1959, Mrs. Steggal had recently been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. John Schlatterback, of Marion.

Surviving are her son, Lowell, three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Santee, Mrs. Ed (Lois) Kennedy of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. John (Luella) Schlatterback of Marion, 14 grandchildren, brothers, Robert Gersonde, Sumner, Fred Hoth of West Salem, Wisconsin, Leo Hoth of Bangor, Wisconsin, sisters, Mrs. George (Selma) McLaughlin, Lakewood, California, and Mrs. Norman (Francis) Zobel, Sumner, two step-brothers, Clarence and George Gersonde of Sumner, and a step-sister, Mrs. W. J. Sneller of Cedar Falls.
