Amelia DeSotel Franks 1867-1939

FRANKS, DESOTEL, WIEDAMAN, SMITH, ERTZ, LAPAGE

Amelia DeSotel Franks, one of
this community's highly respected
residents, passed away at her
farm home west of Oelwein, la.,
on. Saturday morning, Feb. 4, 1939
at the age of 71, yeacs, 3 months
and 16 days. Mrs. Franks has
been in poor health for some time
previous to her death, but had
been able to be up and around to
assisted with her nousework and
therefore her death was a sudden
shock to this community.
Deceased was born in Millville
township, Clayton County, la., on
October 18, 1867 where she grew
to womanhood. She was united
in marriage to George Jacob Franks
at Elkader on May 28, 1888. After
their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Franks
settled on a farm near Colesburg
until five years ago when they moved
to Oelwein. She was a member of Sacred
Heart church of Oelwein, Ia. All was
done to help save her life but to no
avail.
Her death is deeply mourned
by her husband, G. J. Franks and
eight children, all of whom are
living, Michael Franks of Louisiana;
Mrs. Henry Wiedaman of Cassville, Wis.;
Mrs. Amos Franks, Earl Franks, all of
Edgewood, Ia.; Mrs. Huston Smith,
George Franks and Charlie Franks all
of Oelwein Ia.; and Mrs. Leo Ertz of
Turkey River, Ia., and two brothers
and two sisters, Mr. Ed DeSotel of
Lamont, Ia, Mr. Joe DeSotel of Luana,
Ia., Sister Mary Irma of Dyersville, Ia,
Mrs. Lizzie LaPage of Peoria, Ill., and numerous
friends by who she will be sadly missed.
Six sisters and six brothers preceded
Mrs. Franks in death. Funeral services
were conducted by Rev.
O Hagan at Sacred Heart Catholic
church in Oelwein, la., on Monday
morning at 9:00 o.'clock. The body
was laid in the City Cemetery at
Fairbank, la. A large number of
relatives and friends from far and
near were in attendance at the
funeral. The family has the sympathy
of all this community.
