Helen Darlene Blockhus Lawrence, 75, of West Union, IA, died Monday evening, November 15, 2004, in her home, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born September 24, 1929, in West Union to Elmer and Emma (Weitenhagen) Blockhus. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union. She graduated from West Union High School, and attended Iowa Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. On January 3, 1971, she was united in marriage to Guy Lawrence at the Little Brown Church. She worked for Carpenter & Kraft Redi-Mix for many years as a bookkeeper. She taught Sunday school for thirty years. Helen loved her flowers and doing activities with her family. Survivors include her nieces, Judy (Don) Eberhart, West Union and Janet (Elton) Borsheim, Decorah and a nephew, Jim (Debra) Blockhus, Allison; grandnieces and nephews; great grandnieces and nephews and her companion of eleven years, her cat Short Stop. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Arthur and sister-in-law, Francis Blockhus.
