Emily Elida Knowlton passed
away Tuesday, May 30th at 9:30
p. m. after a lingering illness at
her home at 106 7th Ave. SW.
Had she lived two more days, she
would have been 88 years of age.
Born into the family of Jacob and
Ann Robinson in New York City,
June 1, 1856, she later moved
with her parents at the age of five
to Fayette County, and has lived
in and near Oelwein since that
time.
On August 26, 1871, she was
united Jin marriage to John R.
Knowlton in Fayette County.
Five children were born to this
couple, three of whom survive
their mother. They are, Mrs.
Bertha Schrack, Mrs. Cassie Steggall,
and Mrs. Viola Moore. Two
children preceded, her in death,
Jesse R. Knowlfion and Flossie
Knowlton.
Six grandchildren, Jess Steggall,
Thelrna Rees, Laverne Obenchain,
Clair Obenchain, Mrs.
Helen Evans, and Mrs. Fern Baillie,
and six great grandchildren,
Ronnie Obenchain, Judy Obencliain,
Sharon Steggall, Hiliary
Steggall, Donna Baillie, and June
Henthorn also survive Mrs.
Knowlton.
For the past four years she has
lived with her daughter, Mrs.
Moore, at their home at 106 7th
Ave. SW. In 1907 she joined the
First Baptist church of Fairbank.
Iowa, and moved her letter to
the First Baptist church of Oelwein
nearly 12 years ago.
Services were held at the First
Baptist church in Oelwein, Iowa,
with the Rev. W. Edward Epps
officiating. Arrangements were
in charge of the Brant funeral
home, and burial was made in
the Fairbank cemetery.
