Bessie Mae, daughter of Babel
and Mary Elizabeth Oliver Gardner,
was born near Lima Aug. 11,
1894 and died at Mercy Hospital,
Oelwein; Aug. 6, 1963 after a long
illness.
She lived in the Lima neighborhood
until she was 10 or 12 when
they moved to Oelwein, which remained
her home until death. On
Aug. 8, 1909 she was married to
John Hugh Luther in Oelwein. He
preceded her in death in 1959, 50
years after their marriage.
She leaves the following children:
Martin Luther of Oelwein;
Frances (Mrs. Ralph Willett) of
Waterloo; Jack Luther of Des
Moines; Mrs. Maxine Reynolds of
Des Moines and George Luther of
California. Also one brother,
George Gardner of Des Moines, 18
grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at
the Brant Funeral Home oh Friday,
Aug. 9, at 2 p. m. with Dr. L. W.
Hauter officiating. Mrs. Sam F.
Smith was organist and the following
grandsons served as casket
bearers- Don Luther, Jim Luther,
Bill Luther, Martin Luther Jr.,
Jack Willett and Charles Willett.
Burial was in Floral Hills Memorial
Gardens, Oelwein.Oelwein Daily Register - 13 June 1963
