Obituary—Robert Earl Parker
Robert Earl Parker, son of Earl and Bess Parker, passed away at 2 p.m. Aug. 10, 1943, in the Burlington hospital, Burlington, Iowa, after a lingering illness. He was born May 14th, 1916, in Rochester, Minn. His boyhood was spent in Rochester and he attended the public school there.
During his youth he always enjoyed spending his vacations with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Palmer of Maynard and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Parker at Fayette, in later years his summers were spent with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. John Hamrick of Maynard. When he was two years old he contracted infantile paralysis, which during his later years left him in a weakened condition. In the winter of 1941 he suffered a severe attack of influenza which later with complications caused his death. Besides his parents he leaves one brother, Thomas R. Parker of Sioux City, several aunts, uncles and cousins in and around. Maynard, Fayette and Waterloo and a host of friends wherever he went for to know Bob was to love him.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 12, at the Maynard Methodist church at 2:30 Rev. V. C. Grant assisted by Purley Jennison officiating.
The many beautiful floral tributes were cared for by Mesdames G.C. Mittlestadt and Herman Gardow. Mesdames George Curley and Walter Jellings sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" accompanied by Mrs. Jack Reed. Casket bearers were Anton Haas, Ralph Pliester, Norman Ward, Herman Gardow, George Shadle and Walter Suhr. He was laid to rest in Long Grove cemetery. Relatives and friends from out of town attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Langley, Burlington; Thomas R. Parker of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Bush, Mrs. Leo McDonald, Mrs. Jesse Palmer and daughter Doris of Waterloo; K. E. Powse of Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Davis, Harry and, Parker Davis, Scott Ostrander, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ostrander, Mr. and Mrs. M. Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Whitley, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Whitley, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Whitley, Miss Grace Parker, Mrs. Raymond Clark, all of Fayette and Mrs. Jack Frye of Randalia.
