ALBERT H. S. LENZ

Albert Henry Samuel Lenz was
born the 29th day of March in
the year 1858 at Hetzdorf, Arnwalde,
Provinz Brandenburg
Prussia, Germany. His parents
were Mr. Carl Lenz and Louisa
nee Rosenkranz. His father died
in May 1865 when he was but 7
years of age. In the year 1868 he
came to this country with his
stepfather, mother and brothers
and sisters. The family settled
down at Littleton in Buchanan
county. However, in the same
year they moved to a mill about
2 miles south of Oelwein where
the Oelwein Park is now located.
There his stepfather Charles Lenius
was engaged in milling for
several years.
On Nov. 18, 1884 he was united
in marriage to Hermine Meyer
and the couple moved to a farm
northwest of Oelwein and lived
there till 1920 when they returned
to Oelwein. To this union 12
children were born, seven daughters
and five sons. They are Mrs.
Hannah Lauck who preceded her
father in death, Mrs. Louise Kroeger
of Holyoke, Colo., Mrs. Martha
Schmoldt of Waterloo, Carl,
Martin, Minnie and Mrs. Erna Schrader
and Albert, all of Oelwein.
Mrs. Bertha Zummak of Jesup,
Paul and Margaret of Oelwein arid
Edgar of Evanston, Ill.. He leaves
n5so one sister, Mrs. Albertine
Wegner of Sumner and two half-brothers,
Theodore and Fred Lenius,
as also thirty grandchildren
and two great grandohiidren. Seven
brothers and sisters and one
half-brother preceded him in
death.
During his life Mr. Lenz remained
a faithful member of the Lutheran
church in which he had
been instructed and confirmed. In
him this congregation loses one of
its charter members who took
part in its founding 51 years ago
in 1885. May he rest in peace and
tho eternal light shine upon him.
