OELWEIN -- Melissa Ann Kuennen, 40, of Oelwein, died Monday, July 28, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after a lengthy illness.

She was born June 3, 1968, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Urban and Floraine Adams Kuennen. She graduated from West Central High School, Maynard, in 1986, then attended Hawkeye Community College, Waterloo. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Rosary Society.

Survived by: her parents of Oelwein; two brothers, Michael (LuAnn) Kuennen of Palo and Mark (Lavell) Kuennen of Fayette; two sisters, Joanne (Greg) Ebert of Dysart and Kathleen Kuennen (Tim Greene) of Fayette; six nieces; six nephews; nine great-nieces and -nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Barbara Lynn Kuennen; and grandparents, Carl and Frances Kuennen, and Oran and Edith Adams.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, both in Oelwein. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. parish Scripture service.

Memorial fund: has been established in her name.

Melissa enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She loved cats and her dog "Krissy." She also enjoyed collecting "Tweety" memorabilia.
