OELWEIN -- James LeRoy Doty, 59, of Oelwein, died Thursday, Sept. 18, as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident north of Hazleton on Highway 150.
He was born Oct. 25, 1948, in Oelwein, son of Burl Elston Doty and Betty Elaine Lillibridge Doty South. He married Bonnie Lee Petersen on Sept. 10, 1971, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fredsville.
He graduated from Oelwein Community High School in 1968 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Doty was a custodian for the Oelwein Community Schools. He had previously worked at the Hazleton School, the High School and was currently working at the Middle School. He was a member of the Christian Church and then joined First Baptist Church.
Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Beth Ann Doty and Brenda (Michael) Huston, both of Oelwein; two sons, Jim (Lisa) of Maynard and Joey (Crystal) of Oelwein; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Betty South of Oelwein; his father, Burl Doty of Oelwein; and a brother, Bob (Becky) South of Readlyn.
Preceded in death by: his stepfather, Harold South; and two grandsons, Nathaniel Doty, and Ben Huston, who died of injuries sustained in the same motor vehicle accident.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Oelwein, with burial in Florial Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein. Military graveside services will be conducted by Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post #9.
Public visitation from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
