OELWEIN -- Howard Marinus Sorensen, 94, of Oelwein, died Tuesday, March 25, at Oelwein Health Care Center following a long illness.
He was born Jan. 27, 1914, in Latimer, son of Henry Carl and Anna Marie Christensen Sorensen. He married Hazel Nelsina Christiansen on Dec. 28, 1941, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Coulter. She died Oct 17, 2004.
Mr. Sorensen graduated from Hampton High School in 1932 and attended Drake University, Des Moines. He worked for the Chicago Great Western Railroad and the Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1935 to 1978. He then owned and operated Sorensen Real Estate Management Service, Oelwein, until 1998.
Survived by: two sons, Doug (Connie) of Upper Marlboro, Md., and James (Nancy) of Chicago; and four grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Gearhardt, Soren and Albert; and a sister, Myrtle.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, with burial at 2:15 p.m. in Coulter Cemetery, Coulter. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
