Delbert E. Wetherbee 1908-1946

Delbert Eugene Wetherbee, son
of Mr. and Mrs. James B. and
Effie Wetherbee, was born August
13th, 1908, in Oelwein, Iowa,
where he had lived and made his
home with his parents all his life.
He was graduated from Oelwein
High School in 1927. After graduation
he entered his Uncle's
blacksmith shop on, East Charles
street, where he learned the black
smithing trade, and welding. During
his period of employment, he
not only rendered a fine service
to this community, but also made
a host of friends, for he was held
in high esteem by all who knew
him. His last employment was
with the city of Oelwein.
He was taken ill in 1942, and
spent a large part of two -years
in Mayo Hospital, at Rochester,
Minnesota. With all the loving
care and aid given him, he could
not fully recover. However, during
all that time, he bore his infirmities
with calm faith and fortitude.
He was preceded in death by his
father, in 1944.
He departed this life on February
25th, 1946, at Mercy Hospital,
leaving to mourn his departure his
mother, three brothers Leslie,
Glen and Richard, all of Oelwein,
one sister, Arlene (Mrs. James
Johnson); two uncles, William
Wetherbee and Edward Kuhns,
both of Oelwein; two aunts, Mrs.
Edward Kuhns of Oelwein; and
Mrs. David Graham, of Clinton,
Iowa. Also several cousins.
Services were held at the
Brant Funeral Home Thursday afternoon,
February 28th, Rev. J. S.
Schroder officiating with interment
at Woodlawn cemetery, Oelwein.
