Funeral services will be
held Saturday for Fred Lane
Clendenen of 110 12th St. SE in
Oelwein.
Clendenen's body was
discovered by his wife about
4:15 p.m. Wednesday in the
basement of their home. A
preliminary ruling by Fayette
County Medical Examiner Dr.
Harold Hallberg of Oelwein is
that Clendenen apparently
died of a self-inflicted gunshot
wound.
A 410 gauge shotgun was
found next to the body.
Clendenen is believed to have
died sometime prior to 2 p.m.
according to Hallberg.
The services will be held at
11 a.m. Saturday at the Brant-
Kerns Funeral Home in
Oelwein with the Rev.
LaVerne Streich, pastor of
Zion Lutheran Church, of
Oelwein, officiating. Burial
will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Friends may call at the
funeral home after 10 a.m.
Friday.
Clendenen was retired from
Speedy Manufacturing Co. of
Oelwein.
Surviving are his wife,
Clarabel; his mother, Susie
Clendenen of Oelwein; four
sons, Phil Clendenen of
Humboldt, Ray Clendenen of
Cedar Rapids, Richard
Clendenen and John R.
Clendenen, both of Oelwein;
two daughters, Mrs. Vincent
(Marlys) Tookey of Rutland
and Mrs. Gary (Sharon) Zingg
of Independence; 28 grandchildren;
seven great grandchildren;
three brothers, Cecil
Clendenen and John Clendenen,
both of Oelwein and
Harry Clendenen of Mc-
Cassville, Ark.; and three
sisters, Mrs. Glenn (Bess)
Heitter of Oelwein, Mrs. Hazel
Reed of Indianapolis, Ind.,
and Mrs. Leo (Marge) Kerns
of Hazleton.
He was preceded in death by
his father and a sister.
