Gustav Adolph Busse 1877-1957

Gustav Adolph Busse was born
in Schwarzeman, Province of Posen,
Germany on Dec. 23, 1877,
the son of William and Amelia
Zitlau Busse.
When about one month old, he
was baptized in the Lutheran
church of his homeland and at
the age of 14 was confirmed.
In the summer of 1892, Mr.
Busse came to America, living
first on a farm near Fairbank,
later moving to a farm near Independence.
At the age of 21 and
for a period of four years, Mr.
Busse worked in a mill in the
state of California.
In the year 1911 Mr. Busse and
Agatha Wolfe were united in marriage
at Oelwein. Two children
were born to this union, a daughter,
Geraldine, and a son, Reynold,
both surviving their parents.
After their marriage Mr. and
Mrs. Busse made their home on a
farm near Arlington and later on
a farm six miles south of Arlington.
On Aug. 7, 1927 Mrs. Busse died.
In the year 1943 Mr. Busse left
the farm and made his home with
his daughter, Geraldine, in Clinton,
Iowa.
On Sept. 26, 1948, Mr. Busse
and Lena Wegner were united in
marriage, the Rev. Henry Dieter
officiating.
Mr. Busse had been in poor
health for quite some time, yet
regularly attended the services at
Zion Lutheran church of which he
was a member. On Sunday evening,
Sept. 15, 1957, after Mr. and
Mrs. Busse bad attended the ordination
and commissioning and
reception of Mrs. Busse's nephew,
the Rev. Arthur Roepke, Mr. Busse
was stricken with a heart attack,
which proved to be fatal, while
driving home.
Surviving are his wife, Lena, and
two children, Geraldine Busse of
Des Moines and Reynold Busse
of Strawberry Point; also one
brother, August, Oaji, Calif., and
two sisters, Mrs. Ella Jones, in
California and Mn. Hilda Becker,
Dundee; also one granddaughter,
Kay Busse. -
Mr. Busse attained the age of
79 years, eight months and 22 days.
Funeral services were held
Thursday afternoon, Sept. 19, at
Zion Lutheran, Oelwein, and were
conducted by Pastor Paul. C. Lutz.
Services were in charge of the
Hintz funeral home. Mrs. Karl
Behrens and Mrs. Robert Rechkemmer,
accompanied by Mrs. Ed
Schuchmann at the organ console,
sang.
Interment was made at Union
cemetery.
Pallbearers were Walter Hahn,
Fred Hahn, Herbert Hahn, Delbert
Wegner, Julius Wegner and Ted Wegner.
