Mrs. Paulina Brickman, nee Rachu, was born in Galchinck in Posen, then a province of Germany, February 6, 1854 and departed this life after a lingering illness Tuesday evening, August 18, 1931, aged 77 years, 6 months and 12 days.

In early infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran church and the divine kinship thus began developed into a conscious faith through the very thorough religious instructions she received in the home as well as in the school. After completing the course in Bible history and catechism she was confirmed in the Lutheran church and the vows then made she ever sought faithfully to observe.

In July, 1876 she was united in marriage with Friedrich Brickman, to whom she was a faithful wife and helpful companion. In 1882 she came to America where her husband had preceded her and they made their home near Fairbank. By constant and faithful labor and observance of frugal habits they made progress under the blessing of God, so that after renting here and there they ventured the purchase of a small farm northeast of Oran, where they lived seven years. Thereafter they acquired a farm some distance north of Fairbank which was the family home until their removal to Oelwein, October 2, 1912. Since then they have lived here on South Frederick Avenue.

God blessed their married life by sending ten children to gladden their home, three of whom have preceded the mother in death, two daughters in infancy and one son, William, at the age of 23 years on October 17, 1906. Those surviving her and mourning with their father the mother's departure are; Mrs. Emilie Dreyer of Oelwein, Mrs. Augusta Small of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Olga Webb of Oelwein, Henry Brickman of Fairbank, Fred Brickman of Fairbank, Robert Brickman of Oelwein and Mrs. Clara Westendorf of Fairbank. She leaves also thirty-three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One sister in Germany, it seems safe to assume, survives her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brickman were held this afternoon at the Brickman home on South Frederick Ave. and at Zion Lutheran church conducted by her pastor. Rev. F. H. Voelker. Interment was made in the cemetery at Fairbank.
