Gustav EdWard Weise, son. pf John
Gottfried Weise and his wife, Juliana,
was born April 17, 1864 at Oberweissdorf,
Saxony, Germany. Here he was
baptized into the name of the triune
God. At Ostritz near Kloster Mariental
he was confirmed in the Lutheran
faith. From his stepfather Ernst Lemmer
he learned the blacksmith trade.
In 1881 he migrated to America,
settling at Oelwein, Iowa. However,
after a year on the farm, he went to
Illinois where for a period of three
years he worked near Peoria. After
his return to Iowa, he was united in
marriage Aug 16, 1890, with Minnie
Kammos of Oelwein, Rev. A. Hahn
officiating. To this union three children
were born, Alfred Otto who departed
this life in tender infancy, and
Olga and Hattie. After their marriage
Mr. and Mrs. Weise moved onto a
farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of Oelwein.
Here they lived for some 5 years when
they removed to their farm northwest of
Hazleton. Here they made their home for
24 years. In 1920 they retired from farm
life and settled at Oelwein at the present
home on Fourth Avenue S. E.
Mr. Weise was a thrifty and hardworking
man who made a success of
his labors on the farm. He was a
truly affectionate father and husband,
an upright friend and neighbor,
and an earnest Christian. For some
years he was secretary of the local
Lutheran congregation, and performed his
duties nobly and well.
About 2 years ago he was stricken
with heart trouble. He recovered from
the attack so that he could be about
and seemed on the road to health.
But last Wednesday while in the city
on an errand, he suffered another attack.
His condition was grave. After
a restless night, he again seemed on
the way to recovery. Thursday evening
having partaken of a light supper
he visited with his wife, his sister and
his niece. He seemed in good spirit, when
without warning, his body relapsed. When
the lights were turned on, his loved ones
realized that his soul had fled at twenty
minutes after eight. God had called him home.
Without visable struggle or pain, he had gone
to his reward.
He leaves to mourn his loss, besides a host of
friends and other relatives,
his grief-stricken wife, his two
sorrowing daughters, Olga, now Mrs.
Roy Freed of Aurora, and Hattie, now
Mrs. Frank Strempke of Jeaup; three
sisters, Louise Schmitt of Germany,
Mrs. Ernestine Neumann of Oelwein,
Mrs. Emma Oelwein, of Pocatello,
Idaho, 4 grandchildren, 4 nephews,
and 2 nieces. May he rest In peace,
and may the glory of hia God shine
upon him.
Last services were conducted from
the family home on Fourth Avenue,
SE., June 17th, at 1:45 P. m.. and from
the Lutheran church at 2:00 p. m.
Rev. E. j. Braullck officiating. Interment
was made In the Hazelton cemetery
