Artel Berry Ward was born in Fairbank Jan. 22, 1881 and died at Oelwein Mercy hospital Feb. 6, 1956. He was eldest of seven sons born to Dr. G. B. and Ella Josephine Berry Ward.
He was a graduate of Drake University, Des Moines, and was a long time high school teacher and superintendent in Iowa and South Dakota. After retiring from school duties, he returned to Fairbank survivors are two children; Griff and Grace, both of Fairbank, and three brothers, Dr. L. W. Ward of Oelwein; W. S. Ward, Waterloo, and G. W. Ward, Mr. Pleasant. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Dr. D. W. Ward in 1945; Dr. G. G. Ward in
1941 and Lynn B. Ward in 1921.
Services were held at the Fairbank Baptist church February 3 with Rev. Donald Hager officiating. Burial was in the Fairbank cemetery. The Brant funeral home was in charge.
Pallbearers were Willie Tinkey, John Rechkemmer, Henry Benzer, Thomas Liebe, George Polege and Ervin Polege.
