Frances Jane Weeks Codling, a
resident of Fairbank for the past 74
years passed away at her home Friday,
February 21, 1930. She was in
her 90th year.
Born in Giimington. New Hamshire, December 28. 1840, she came to
Iowa at the age of 16 and with her
parents located in Oran Township.
After completing her education she
assumed the duties of teaching, having
been one of the pioneer teachers
of this community during the Civil
War.
On December 26. 1R65 she was
marriod to William Codling, who
came here from Durham, England, in
1856. To this union were born one
son who died in infancy, and three
daughters. Mrs. Codling was left a
widow in 1894 and six years later
moved to Fairbank where she has
since maintained her residence.
A. highly esteemed and respected
citizen. Mrs. Codling leaves a host
of relatives and friends to mourn
her passing. She was the only remain
ing charter member of the Womens
Relief Corps and. until the
infirmities of age prevented, was an
active member of the Fairbank Baptist
church with which she affiliated
March 4. 1860, when she was baptized
by Rev. D. C. Cbamplin.
Surviving her are three daughters
Mrs. Adelina Hanson of Oelwein,
Mrs. Laura Carpenter of St. Paul
and Mrs. Minnie Clow of Fairbank
There are also ten grandchildren
and nine great grand-children.
After brief services at the residence
Sunday Feb. 23 at 2:30 P. M.
the body was escorted by members of the
W. R. C., was taken to the Fairbank
Baptist church where the final services
were conducted by Rev. Ada
Hillis of Oelwein assisted by the
local pastor, Rev. Phillips. Mrs. Ellen Ervin and Miss Kate Kappes of
Oelwein sang, and the Women's Relief
Corps conducted their service.
The body was laid to rest in the
Fairbank cemetery.
