Dora Janette Sayles Winkler 1857-1929

Dora Janette Sayles was born in
Jefferson Township, Fayette County
Iowa about two miles south of Oelwein,
March 22, 1857 and passed to
her heavenly home, March 3rd, 1929
at the age of seventy-one years,
eleven months and eleven days.
She was the eldest child of Oney
and Lavina Sayles; the other children
being Georgiana how deceased.
Willinm 0. of Ames, Iowa and Adella.
now Mrs. David Johnson of Westgate,
Iowa, also two half sisters. Mrs.
Donna Emmons of Kansas City, Mo.;
and Mrs. Ora Fox of Chicago, 111.,
William O. and Mrs. Ora Fox are
present at the funeral.
March 27th, 1887, she was united in
marriage to Fletcher W. Winkler of
Westgate. Iowa. They were the parents
of five children, three of whom
are living, Ernest D.. living near
Maynard; Frank W. of Glendive.
Montana and Edwin B.. of LaGrange
111.; also a step-son, Fred W. Winkler,
living near Maynard. Grace, an
invalid daughter, died at the age of
eighteen and a second daughter, Mrs.
Vaughn V. Parsons died in 1914, leaving
two small daughters, whom this
loving grandmother cared for for
several years. Beside these three
there are nine other grandchildren,
eleven in all.
Her husband died January 14th,
1889, when she was left to battle the
world alone and care for her family.
This she did bravely and well until
the children were able to make
their way in the world themselves.
Mrs. Winkler was A member of
Grace Methodist church for many
years and died in the full faith of
tho living Christ.
Her son and his family from
LaGrange,Ill., arrived in Oelwein.
Monday afternoon and have had full
charge of the funeral arrangements.
They have the sympnthy and prayer
of the mothers wany friends in the
love that has come to them.
Funeral services were held at
Grace M«thodist church. Oelwein,
Iowa Wednesday. March 6th. at 1:30
Rev. A. W. Henke, minister of the
church offficiating. Interment was
made in Murphy Cemetery, In Fremont
township, west of Westgate.
