The last services for little Pauline
Ott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph
Ott residing two miles north of Pairbank,
were held Wednesday afternoon
at 1 o'clock. The little girl met her
death Monday afternoon from a gun
shot wound, and the shooting was an
accident.
While the parents were in Fairbank
attending the funeral of Mrs. Fred
Bahe, the little son, Herman Ott, eight
years of age, obtained a rifle and his
sister, Pauline, asked him what he was
going to do with it. The boy, not
knowing it was loaded and presuming
that it would be necessary to raise the
hammer before it could be discharged,
pointed the gun at his sister and pulled
the trigger. There was an explosion,
and the bullet entered the right eye of
Pauline and lodged in the brain, death
ensuing in a short time. The gun was
a double action rifle.
The parents knew nothing of the
terrible accident till they returned
from the funeral, and were naturally
almost frantic when they discovered
that their little daughter had met
death in the manner described. The
services were attended by a large number
of sympathizing friends and all
that is mortal of the little girl were
laid at rest in the cemetery. A profusion
of flowers were placed upon the
casket, and everything possible done
to express sympathy.
