Lawrence Leon Schott

Funeral services for Lawrence Schott were held Friday, April 25, 2003, in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Jennifer Andreas officiated, assisted by the Reverend Rusty Phillips. The organist was Janet Helgerson with special music by Mary David and Pweggy Wurzer. Casket Bearers were: David Aanes, Richard Kittelson, Terry Cummings, John Amundson, John Nelson, Rick Swenson. Honorary Casket Bearers were: Willis, Bob, Marvin and Gary Schott, and Ernie Helgerson. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery at Clermont.

Lawrence Leon Schott, the son of Fred Louis Schott and Ruth Rosella (nee Entwisle) Schott, was born August 7, 1928, at Hawkeye, Iowa. He died Monday, April 21, 2003, at his home in rural Fayette County, near Clermont, Iowa. he had reached the age of 74 years, 8 months, and 14 days.

He was baptized April 2, 1961, in the Wesleyan Methodist Church at West Union, Iowa, and attended school at Hawkeye. On November 18, 1947 he was married to Doris Marie Nyborg at Elgin, Iowa. To this union 15 children were born.

They farmed in the West Union and Ossian areas and in 1971 he was employed by Heying Firms at West Union, Iowa. Lawrence worked there for 20 years and was the Growing manager for the plant. After he retired he helped the neighbors with their haying and raised a variety of animals on his farm, including dogs, chickens, and peacocks. Lawrence also had a mule, which he hitched up to a cart so that the grandchildren and great grandchildren could ride around the farm. He enjoyed having his family around him.

Lawrence enjoyed working in his garden, playing his favorite card game, Huckleybuck, and cracking walnuts to put in the homemade fudge that he liked to eat.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Terry, a granddaughter, Misty Schott, a sister, Jane Helgerson, and a brother, Art Schott.

Surviving are his wife, Doris, 14 children, Larry Schott (Pam Polark) of Hampton, IA, Sue Schott (Greg Vorwald) of Mt. Ida, WI, Barb (Larry) Wolfs, Spring Grove, MN, Charlie (Mary Davis) Schott of Randalia, IA, Jerry "Joe" (Rebecca Spies) Schott of Clermont, Randy "Fritz" Schott of Black River Falls, WI, Marcia (Randy) Wiedenhoff of Clermont, Cheryle (Leo) Monroe of Ossian, Rick Schott and Kristy (Kevin) Meyer, all of Elgin, IA, Allen (Jennifer) Schott of Kellogg, MN, Deanna (John) Pritchard of Mukwonago, WI, Jerrel (Christy) Schott of West Union, Tim (Lynae) Schott of Prairie Du Sac, WI, and a daughter-in-law, Jean Schott (Ralph Hoeck) of Clermont; 38 great grandchildren, and 22 great great grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Marvin (Dora) Schott of Preston, MN, Duane (Joyce) Schott and Willis (Shelvy) Schott of Clermont, IA, and Gary (Karolyn Moritz) Schott of Eldorado, IA, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Schott and a brother-in-law, Ernie Helgerson, both of Clermont.
