Arlene Leeman

Services were held Thursday, April 10 for Arlene Mary Leeman, 84, of Elgin, at Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf. Burial is in Norway Lutheran Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Arlene died Sunday, April 6 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville following a long illness.

Arlene was born Nov. 15, 1923 in Wagner Township, St. Olaf to Anton and Alma (Johnson) Peterson. She was baptized in May of 1924, at Norway Lutheran Church. Arlene attended country school and graduated from Elkader High School in 1942. She graduated from Elkader Junior College in 1943, and started teaching in rural Clayton County.

Arlene married Russell Leeman at the Norway Lutheran Church Parsonage Nov. 19, 1946. They had four children. She quit teaching in May of 1947, and continued to help Russell on the farm. Russell died on July 23, 1959. Arlene moved her family to Gunder in 1959, and Elgin in 1960. Arlene loved spending time with her family and will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Russell.

Survivors include four children: Norm (Marilyn) Leeman, Postville, Janet (Dan) Hall, Colorado Springs, Colo., Jim (Tina Marie) Leeman, Grand Rapids, Mich., Mary Kay (David) Kahrs, St. Olaf; one brother, Norman (Vivian) Peterson, Postville; eight grandchildren, Chris Leeman, Matt Leeman, Danica Hall, Nick Leeman, Joe (Courtney) Leeman, Lea (Kirk) Peters, Lesa (Jason) Donnelly, Marcus Kahrs and one great-granddaughter, Avery Donnelly.
