Carl Joseph Ramaker

Services for Carl Ramaker, 72, were held Friday, April 11 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont with Rev. Dwight Albers officiating. Interment was in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Carl Joseph Ramaker was born February 9, 1936, to Ralph Has and Grace M. (Melcher) Ramaker at McGregor. He died Tuesday, April 8 at his home in Clermont.

Carl attended the DuPage County Public School in Illinois. He was employed at the Standard Lime and Cement Company. He served in the United State Army from October 9, 1958 to September of 1964, after which he returned to his job at the cement company in Illinois. In 1963 Carl returned to northeast Iowa and began working for the Hygrade Packing Plant in Postville and finally for the Pin Company in Clermont.

Carl married Wilma Kay Smith June 27, 1958. They had two children, Thomas and Victoria. Wilma died February 26, 1965. He married Joyce Amanda Mabb December 4, 1965, in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. A step daughter, Pamela Mabb, joined the family.

Carl enjoyed many outdoor activities which included picking up walnuts, cracking them and selling the nutmeats. He also liked to hunt small animals such as squirrels and racoons and to fish. Carl also liked to trap gophers. He also helped at the Wander sugar bush with the collecting of maple syrup in the spring. Another thing Carl enjoyed was attending auctions.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Grace; his wife, Wilma; his step mother, June (Barr) Ramaker; a brother, Ronald Ramaker, and a niece, Penny Grace Nuehring.

Surviving is his wife, Joyce, of Clermont; two children, Thomas Ramaker, Clermont, and Victoria (Mike) Tash, Clermont; a step daughter, Pamela (Tony) Schlee, Elgin; five sisters, Dorothy Nuehring, Postville, Barb (Gene) Dreier, Giard, Karen Cigelske, Prattville, Ala., Tonya (Phil) Biesemeyer, Claremore, Okla., and June (Bob) Alice, Plainfield, Ill.; four brothers, Eugene Ramaker, McGregor, Mike (Lulu) Ramaker, Lemont, Ill., Richard Ramaker, Lockport, Ill., and Robert (Sandy) Ramaker, Bolingbrook, Ill.; a step sister, Patricia Barr, Little Rock, Ark.; five grandchildren, Thora Nickole Tash, Tomi Noelle Tash, Matthew Allen MacTaggart, Melissa Ellen MacTaggart, Marshall Levi MacTaggart; three great grandchildren, Caleb Justin Hammel, Bradley James Normann, and Shae Marie Moncada; and many nieces and nephews.
