Funeral Notes
R.E. "Dick" Boies
Oelwein-------Funeral services for R.E. "Dick" Boies will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Dagit officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, with military graveside services conducted by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post #9.
Friends may call from 2 until 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, and one hour before service time at the church Wednesday.
Mr. Boies, 66, died early Sunday, July 21, 1996, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, after a sudden illness.
He was born December 6, 1929, in Rowley, the son of Horace Glen and Leta Fern (Gaylord) Boies. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952. On September 29, 1957, he married Lois Hoth at the Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein. Mr. Boies owner and operator of Dick's Cafe in Oelwein since September 1976. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid #9.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, four children, Christine Valinski of Shakopee, Minnesota, Tim (Gail), Janice (Kevin) Minton and Dan (Julie), all of Oelwein; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Boies of Cedar Rapids and Horace Boies of Richland Center, Wisconsin; two sisters, June Benz of Springdale, Ark., and Bernita Reed of Winthrop; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Hubert, Robert and Gaylord; and a sister, Marion.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
