Edward John Heise, a pioneer citizen of this vicinity, passed away at his home in Oelwein at 4:30 am May 11 following an illness of five weeks. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 from the Lutheran Church conducted by his pastor, Rev. F. Zimmerman.

He was born in Kossawa, Germany, August 14, 1839 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Heise. He was educated in the schools of that place and continued to reside there till 1874 when he came to this country and located on a farm northwest of Oelwein where he was located till 1901 when he moved into Oelwein which has since been his home.

A short time prior to leaving Germany he was united in marriage to Miss Amelia Rachau in Pottsdam, Germany, and the young couple soon came to this country. They were parents of five children, one of whom preceded him in death and the remaining four, together with the wife and mother, survive him. The children are Ed and Paul Heise, Mrs. Alda Rohrig and Mrs. Agnes Kunkle all of this city and vicinity. There are also ten grandchildren.

Early in life he became a member of the Lutheran church and was a charter member of the Lutheran church of this city. He served it as a trustee for a number of years and was always faithful in its support.
His family have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
