John August Lenius, eldest son of Theodor Lenius and Wilhelmina Lenius, nee Lauch, was born at the Lenius farm home about three and half miles northwest of Oelwein on March 15, 1892 and departed this life suddenly Saturday noon March 15 on his birthday just 28 years old.

By virtue of his baptism on April 14, 1892, performed by Pastor Nitardy of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, he was enrolled as a member of that congregation and according to divine promise all the blessing of salvation were bestowed on him. To the training of the home and of the public school was added the specific religious instruction in catechism and Bible history preparing him for his confirmation in the Lutheran Church on March 24, 1907 by Pastor Zimmermann.

He remained at home assisting with the work until December 15, 1915 when he married Miss Anna Braun and founded a home, living just west of the old home place. The Lord blessed their married life by the coming of four children of whom the eldest, Lenora, preceded the father in death during September 1924 at the age of eight years. Irene, Elmer and Margaret with their mother mourn the untimely departure of the father and husband --- a grief shared by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodor Lenius, two brothers, Arthur and Theodore, three sisters, Mrs. Matilda Brosseau of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Gertrude Bergom of Waterloo and Miss Ella Lenius also of Waterloo, with many relatives and a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

While at work at the home, removing the limb of a tree on March 4th, Mr. Lenius suffered a fall which resulted in a fractured hip. He was the same day taken to the hospital at Oelwein and although suffering intense pain at first, he soon was making satisfactory progress and was patiently awaiting his recovery and his return home. A sudden and unlooked for interference with the heart action just before the noon hour baffled the efforts of the physicians to prolong life and with a word of prayer by pastor in his behalf he departed this life.

The funeral service for Mr. Lenius was held at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the late home five and a half miles northwest of Oelwein and from the Lutheran Church at 2:30 o'clock. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
