Millard Rear

Funeral services for Millard Rear were held Friday in the West Clermont Church at Clermont.

Rev. David Johnson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in God's Acres Cemetery at Clermont.

Casket bearers were Earl Winter, Norris Walvatne, Arthur Matt, Jr., Albert Matt, John Yauslin and Tommy Davis.

Millard Roy Rear, son of Henry and Emma (Olson) Rear, was born Aug. 12, 1906 in Clayton County, Iowa. He died Sept. 23, 1986 at Palmer Memorial Hospital, West Union.

He attended the rural school near his home. In 1930 he was married to Hazel Mork. She died in 1936. The couple had one son.

Millard served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was employed at Clermont Brick and Sand Company and for several years he had a plumbing and heating shop in Clermont. For the past 17 years he has lived in West Union.

October 17, 1953 he was married to Florence Erickson Hein in the Little Brown Church at Nashua.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, and 2 brothers, Clarence and Walter.

Surviving are his wife, Florence, a son, Dennis Lee of Clermont, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Alfred Rear of Independence and Elmer Rear of Cedar Rapids, and 2 sisters, Bess Ernst and Ellen Stevenson, both of Cedar Rapids.

He was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and a 39 year member of the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post No. 375 in Clermont.
