Visitation: 4 to 7 PM October 10, 2007 at Leonard Funeral Home, Elgin, IA and after 10 AM Thursday at the church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM October 11, 2007 at First Baptist Church, Elgin, IA.
Interment: October 11, 2007 at Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, IA.

Helen Muehlethaler, 95, Stewartville, MN, formerly of Elgin, Iowa, died peacefully, at the Stewartville Care Center, Stewartville, MN, on Monday, October 8, 2007, following a brief illness.

Helen was born on July 30, 1912, rural Elgin, IA, to Ernst and Rose (Baumgartner) Baechler. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband of 59 years, Clarence Muehlethaler; and her brothers, John Baechler, Alfred Baechler, and Melbert Baechler and sisters, Selma Kohls, Clara Whitford and Mary Jennings. Helen is fondly remembered by her two daughters: Bev (Max) Broadwater of Stewartville, Minnesota and Joan (Tom) Knighton of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; and her grandchildren Elann (Alan) Wright, Mark (Char) Broadwater, Matt Knighton and Aaron Knighton; and her great granddaughter; Laura Broadwater.

Helen lived in Elgin most of her life where she was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Tabitha Society and the Progress Club. She enjoyed actively singing in the choir at First Baptist and teaching children's Sunday school. She met her husband at the First Baptist Church in Elgin. They were married in a double wedding ceremony with her brother Al and Anna Baechler on August 27, 1934. Helen was a woman who cared about faith, family and friends throughout her life. She joined Clarence in the family furniture business by assisting as an Interior Decorator. They enjoyed the fellowship of their church and surrounding community where their home was marked with warmth and hospitality.
