Esther E. Hackett, 80, of Decorah, died Saturday, October 10, 1992 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah. Funeral services were Tuesday, October 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Decorah with the Rev. James Dale officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Stevenson, Decorah, Marianne Thomas, Cedar Falls, Margie Hackett, Glendale, AZ, and Nancy Campbell, Laurel, MD; and three sons, Ray, Bellville, NJ, Mack, Guttenberg, and Bob, San Jose, CA; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and one brother, Bernard E. Thomas, Arlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ferd, October 30, 1981; three brothers, Ethan, Frank and Erwin; and two granddaughters.

She was born June 28, 1912, in Randalia, the daughter of Edwin A. and Gracia Vogelsand Thomas. She graduated from Randalia High School and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

She married Ferd M. Hackett, June 13, 1931, in Oelwein. She lived most of her life in Fayette County and moved to Decorah in 1983. She had been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home since May 20, 1991.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the church circles, and also a member of the Eastern Star and V.F.W. Auxiliary.
