Jesse D. Brownell, 83, of 911 East Bloominton Street, a retired farmer, died Wednesday night at the Lutheran Home in Muscatine following a long illness. Services will be Saturday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

He was born November 6, 1892, at Maynard, to William and Lanora Talcott Brownell. He attended schools in the Maynard area. On December 27, 1922, he married Cora Tiening at Rock Island, Illinois. He was a 20 year member of the Roy Chopek American Legion Post No. 17.

Survivors includ his wife, a son, Dean of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Mrs. Truett (Jean) Hudson, of Texarkana, Texas, Mrs. George (Maye) Gilmore, of Davenport, and Mrs. Donald (Mayme) Kerf of Iowa City; 14 grand children; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Herald of Fayette and a sister, Mrs. J. K. (Fern) Hunt of San Diego, California.

One son and five brothers preceded him in death.
