MRS. CHARLES "Bud" (Marjorie Cleone Berger) UPTON

Marjorie Cleone Upton, daughter of William and Ethel (Hummel) Berger was born Aug. 14, 1920 at Wadena, Iowa. She died on May 16, 1994 at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa.

Marjorie was baptized at the Wadena Presbyterian church in 1935. She graduated from Volga High School in 1939. On October 30, 1942 she was united in marriage to Charles (Bud) Upton. Ten children were born to this union. Over the years they lived in Volga, Clermont and Elgin. For the past few months, she had resided at the Great River Care Center. Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed having her children and grandchildren visit. She also enjoyed doing embroidering, latch work and reading.

She is survived by her husband, Bud, of Elgin; six sons, Bill of Luana, Gene of Middletown, Delaware, Ronald of Clermont, Mike of West Union, Leslie of Plainview, Minn. and Kenneth of Postville; four daughters, Nadine (Mrs. Russ) West of Elgin, June Upton of Clermont and Connie (Mrs. Randy) Lauer of West Union; 26 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Taylor of Volga and LaVila Harnack of Postville and a brother, Howard Berger of Volga. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Robert and Lyle Berger; and her parents.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 18, 1994 at West Clermont Lutheran Church with Rev. Joseph Nesheim officiating. The organist was Pat Butikofer and the soloist was Art Amundson. Funeral arrangements were made by Muehlethaler Funeral Home of Elgin. The casket bearers were Chuck Upton, Lonnie Upton, Larry Upton, Bert West, Travis Upton and Chris Lauer.
