Amelia Prout Wharram (1850- 1934)

Amelia Jane Prout, daughter of William and Mary Prout, was born June 3, 1850 near Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. She was the youngest of a family of nine children, all of whom have preceded her in death. At eleven years of age she with her parents moved to Ohio. The 6th of May 1868 she was married to Thomas Wharram and lived in Ohio until March 7, 1876 when they journeyed westward to Iowa, locating on a farm one mile south of Stanley. Mr. and Mrs. Wharram were the parents of six children, Frank E. of Waterloo, Chancey O. of Stanley, Mrs. Gertrude St. John of Minneapolis, Minnesota survive. Mrs. Ella Bates departed this life February 17, 1927 and two daughters dying in early childhood. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mrs. Flossie Maley of Stanley, Mrs. Beulah Bowers of Waterloo, Mrs. Hazel Lemmen of Indiana, Mrs. Iola Butters of Dubuque, Mrs. Donna Reed of Aurora, Robert Wharram of Stanley, and Mrs. Glen Jellings of Oelwein which whom she made her home for several years. She was blessed with six dearly loved great grandchildren.

Mrs. Emma Stimson of Stanley, a sister in law, was very dear to her, also Mr. Henry Brinacombe of Stanley, reared in Mrs. Wharram's childhood was held as a brother through all the years of their lives.
