Dorothea Heidt Rohrig (1846-1924)

Mrs. Jacob Rohrig whose maiden name was Dorothea Heidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Heidt, was born March 7, 1846 in Baden, Germany. When some twenty years of age, she migrated to America, coming first to the state of Pennsylvania then later to Johnson County, Iowa. December 15, 1866 she was united in marriage to Jacob Rohrig of Johnson County. For many years this county was her home. Somewhat later she removed to Buchanan County, where she lived on a farm. Her marriage was blessed by ten children, four of whom: Gustav, Otto, Caroline and Frank have preceded their mother in death. The surviving children who now mourn their mothers loss are; Jacob Rohrig of Aurora, Henry Rohrig of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota, Mrs. Mary Rohrig of Stanley, John Rohrig of Davenportt, Mrs. Anna Necker of Abbotsford, Wisconsin and Mrs. Emily Bassel of Waterloo.

Some 20 years ago Mrs. Rohrig's beloved husband was called from her side by death. For six years after his demise she lived near Stanley, removing to Oelwein fourteen years ago. The last ten years she has been living alone.

Some months ago Mrs. Rohrig complained of being ill. Medical advice was sought. However, a lingering illness developed. During the last weeks it became apparent that God had sent his angel of suffering to call her home. August 1st she departed this life. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her griefstricken children and a host of other relatives and friends, one brother, Christopher Heidt of Germany, 33 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Last services were conducted August 4th by the Rev. E. J. Braulick, pastor of the local Lutheran church. Interment was made in Otsego cemetery.
