Thomas Wharram was born in Wilkesbury, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, April 22, 1839 and died in Stanley November 8, 1910 at the age of seventy-one years, six months and 17 days.

His early life was spent in Pennsylvania and Ohio up to the age of 25 when he enlisted in Company A, 128th Reg. of Ohio Infantry Volunteers on the 13th day of March 1863 to serve three years or until the close of the war. He was discharged on the 13th day of July 1865 after a service of two years and four months. On May 6, 1868 in Huron County, Ohio he was married to Amelia Prout; to this union were born six children, Frank E., Chancey O., and Mrs. Ella Bates, all living near Stanley and Mrs. Gertrude Berryman of Toledo, Iowa. Two little girs died in infancy.

In 1876 he with his family moved to Iowa settling on the farm just south of Stanley which place was their home until nine years ago when they moved to Stanley where he has lived until he suddenly passed away on November 8, 1910. Besides the immediate family he leaves to mourn his loss six grandchildren, one brother, two sisters, two sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws.
