We clip the following obituary notice from the Independence Conservative, the deceased being the the father of Mrs. Neri Woods, of this place.

After an illness extending over many months suffering, P. M. Freeman died at his home in Hazelton township, Tuesday morning of last week. Mr. Freeman was a leading and influential farmer, one of the best known in this county. He was a man of strong convictions and indomitable energy, and impressed himself wherever he went. Though never an aspirant for office Mr. Freeman was an ardent Democrat, and was influential in the councils of the party. He was a successful business man and leaves a fine property. Honorable, active and genial, his death leaves a void in the various circles in which he was known that will be difficult to fill. Mr. Freeman was born in Berkshire county, Mass., August 18, 1826. His parents removed to Oneida County, New York in 1828. He was married to Mary Dunton, January 1, 1849. Sometime afterward they removed to Iowa, locating in Fayette county, where the village of Stanley is now located. In 1868 they located on a farm in Hazleton township, where he died. They have had seven children, of whom four are still living, three at home, the fourth Mrs. Woods, of Oelwein. The funeral occurred from the house, Thursday, and the remains were take to Fayette county for internment.
