Alexander McMillan was born in Scotland, September 1813, died February 20, 1901 at the ripe old age of 87 years, 5 months. Mr. McMillan came to America in 1820, settling first in North Carolina, then moved to Canada where in 1848 he was married to Miss Catherine Campbell, they moved to Iowa in 1865, and have since lived near Stanley. To this union twelve children were born, ten of whom survive to comfort the lonely mother. Mr. McMillan was converted and united with the Presbyterian church when a young man, he had faults, but his good noble principles, obliterated all his weaknesses with those who knew him. He was a pillar in the church. Revs. Cassat of Hazleton and Byers of Anamosa, officiated.
Burial in Otsego. Sympathy is tendered the widow and the ten children, especially the three who were detained by sickness and could not visit their beloved father, nor comfort their mother during the past few weeks.Oelwein Register - February 27, 1901
