William Crofoot - Civil War Veteran

Independence, Iowa - May 20 -- William T. Crofoot, age 84 years and a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home on Fourth Avenue, N. E., Wednesday night after a short illness due to the infirmities of age. He had been able to be about town only a few days before.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon, with brief prayer services at the home here, burial in Hazleton cemetery.

Mr. Crofoot was born August 14, 1842, in Geneseo county, New York, and spent the first few years of his life there. The family settled in Buchanan county in 1854. He was married to Miss Almeda Crandall in 1868 and four children were born to this union. She died in Wichita, Kansas in 1907. He then returned to Iowa and located near Hazleton. In 1921 he was again united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Jewell and they moved to his farm near Aurora, where they resided until February this year when they came to this city.

He is survived by his widow and two children, John Crofoot, Witchita, Kansas and Mrs. William Jarrett, Hazleton.
