Burke Hintz was born on Nov. 6, 1918 in Oelwein, Iowa. He passed away peacefully on Dec. 16, 2007.

Raised in Oelwein, he went to college at the University of Iowa (He was a life long Hawkeye’s fan). At the university he met MaryEllen Roseland and married her on Jan. 23, 1941. Soon after they moved to the Roseland farm in Dunbar. In 1952, Burke and MaryEllen moved their family to California. On New Year’s Eve 1955, with five kids and one on the way they moved into their new home in Fullerton. They lived in that same house for 52 years.

He leaves a loving and devoted wife, Mary Ellen. He also leaves behind two sons, one daughter and their families: Carl Hintz, Alan and Pam Hintz, and Les and Gretchen Christie; six grandchildren, Dale (and wife Amy), Brent (and wife Nicole), Allison, David, Jeff and Katie; one great grandson: Benjamin. He will also be missed by his sister Georgene, his brother Dan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burke enjoyed playing golf well into his 80’s. Family members and friends have fond memories: playing cards, boating and camping at Bass Lake and Lake Nacimiento. Who could forget his stories of summers on the Mississippi River as a child, working at the family business, life on the farm, and the beloved road trips to Iowa?

He and MaryEllen were members of Eastside Christian Church and previously Morningside Presbyterian Church, both in Fullerton Calif. They often enjoyed opening their home to friends and out of town guests. Burke enjoyed hearing the reading of the Christmas story found in Luke Chapter 2 just before Christmas dinner.

Burke is now with his parents, Albert and Hazel; his brothers, Marc and Owen; his daughter Christine; and his sons, Owen and Michael.

Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, at McAulay & Wallace Mortuaries, 902 N. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton, CA 92832 at 10:30 a.m.
