Charles Wolf, 86, died at Eldorado, Iowa, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 29, after suffering months with an incurable disease. He had enjoyed a good measure of health during his long active life, and was energetic and strong up to last fall. His health began to fail, and a trip to Rochester confirmed fears that he could not long survive. The past several months were painful ones for him. Medical aid and his loved ones did all they could to make him comfortable. His strong will power made it possible for him to be up at least several hours every day, until the last few days of his life.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, July 2, 1944, at St. Peter Lutheran church by his pastor, the Rev. Wm. A. Foege. Burial was in the family lot on the church cemetery.

Charles Wolf, son of John Wolf and his wife, Caroline, nee Lauer, was born May 31, 1858, at Fort Atkinson, Winneshiek county, Iowa. Soon after his birth he was baptized in the name of the Triune God at the Lutheran church at Fort Atkinson, being served at that time in connection with the church at Eldorado. He renewed his baptismal vow on the day of his confirmation, Palm Sunday, 1872, at Fort Atkinson, being confirmed by Pastor Joseph Meyer.

As a young man he was employed on various farms in the Eldorado vacinity. On May 31, 1881, he married Miss Anna Trapp at Eldorado, the ceremony being performed by Pastor G. Blessin. This union was blessed with five children, one of whom, Hulda, preceded her father in death in 1935. Mrs. Wolf preceded her husband into eternity in 1935. They had almost reached the 54th year of married life at that time.

When Mr. and Mrs. Wolf were married they settled on a farm about three miles north of Eldorado, in Winneshiek County. In 1899 they moved from their farm to spend the evening of life in Eldorado. Here Mr. Wolf was privileged to live for over 25 years.

Those who remain to mourn his departure are this three daughters: Mrs. Elizabeth Koester, Eldorado, Mrs. Caroline Wagner, Foxborrow, Wis.; and Mrs. Rosina Fels, West Union; and his son, Philip, near Eldorado. His departure is also mourned by his 10 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends, as well as by our St. Peter Lutheran church of which he was a member most of his life. He reached an age of 86 years and 29 days.
