Mrs. Mary Tope, 83, died shortly after noon Monday at the Gunder Peterson home, where she had been living. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Tope had been in good health, and was able to be down town each day until her death. During the past few weeks she had complained of her head hurting, but was not considered seriously ill. On Monday she didn't appear for breakfast, and was not up again.

Mrs. Tope spent most of her life on the farm northeast of the city, but for the past few years had resided in West Union, Iowa.

Surviving are two granddaughters, Mrs. Harold Holtzman, Waterloo, and Mrs. Ralph Anderson, Ames; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Allen Lee, in California; a brother, Hardy Wells, Grable, Wyo.; several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Jacob W. Tope, a son, and a daughter preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Rebekah lodge, and had paid her dues for the coming year on Saturday.
