Lillian Thorson

Funeral services for Lillian Thorson were held Saturday, January 8, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Dwight Albers officiated.

Special music was provided by organist Kristin Fitzgerald and a duet by Arthur and Clarence Amundson.

The Casket Bearers were: Darren Schneider, Layne Schneider, Ricky Schneider, Shawn Alber, Shannon Alber, Joshua Schneider, Jason Schneider, Derek Schroeder, Justin Schroeder.

Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery at Clermont. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Evelyn Thompson Thorson, the daughter of Albert T. Thompson and Helen Caroline (nee Bergan) Thompson, was born January 6, 1920 at Clermont, Iowa. She passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2005, in Palmer Lutheran Hospital at West Union, Iowa, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 28 days.

Lillian was baptized June 30, 1922 at the home of her grandparents, Halvor Bergan, and was confirmed on May 12, 1935 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church by the Reverend Gustor Gusten. She attended the Clermont School.

On March 4, 1945 Lillian was married to Clarence Theodore Thorson. Clarence had a daughter, Lydia. Three children were born to Lillian and Clarence, Elaine, Jerry, and Roger. Lillian lived on the farm that they purchased for 66 years. In the fall of 2000 she moved to her present home in Clermont.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence, who died March 21, 1989, six brothers, Tilmer, Floyd, Arthur, Joseph, Otto, and Elmer, four sisters, Gladys (Lyle) Guyer, Marian Ruth Thompson, Viola (Henry) Mueller, and Delores (Lloyd) Kamaus, and a half sister, Ellen (Clarence) Hagelie, a granddaughter, Carrie Ann Thorson, and two step great grandsons, Dustin and Chad Roberts.

Lillian was a life-time member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Sheehan Olson Post No. 375, for over 43 years. She did volunteer work in her home for MHI at Independence and the VA Hospitals at Iowa City and Knoxville, Iowa which included making quilts and other crafts. She had been employed for several years at the Elgin Canning Factory. Lillian made several trips to Izmir, Turkey.
Lillian loved caring for her family and her home. She enjoyed working in the garden and with her flowers, as well as sewing quilts, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and baking Norwegian food. Lillian liked visiting the elderly and caring for them.

Surviving are her children, Elaine and husband, Enis Elagoz, of Izmir, Turkey, Jerry Thorson of Clermont, IA, Roger Thorson and wife, Diane, of Elgin, IA, and a stepdaughter, Lydia and husband, Gene Murphy, of Clermont, IA; four grandchildren: Corey (Amy), Sheena, and Dustin Thorson, and Derin Elagoz; 11 step grandchildren: David Schneider, Ed Schneider, Karen Roberts, LuAnn Alber, Gary Schneider, Melinda Schroeder, Brooke, Nicole, and Steven Lueder, and Ansi and Yanki Elagoz. There are 18 step great grandchildren: Marcy Hoffman, Darren Schneider, Kristin Kelly, Leann Sadler, and Kimberly Moore; Ricky and Layne Schneider; Terra Bracy and Katie Roberts; Shawn and Shannon Alber; Jessica Moser, Jamie Germann, Joshua, and Jason Schneider; Derek and Justin Schroeder, Samantha Mather; eight great great grandchildren; Gabe and Jenne Sadler, Jonah and Zaida Moore, Ellie Jo and Nolan Hoffman, Jacob Germann, and Dylan Roberts; three sisters-in-law: Irene Thompson, Florence Thompson both of West Union, IA and Virginia Thompson of Hawkeye, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
