Mary Miller Floyd (1859-1925)

Mary Catherine, oldest daughter of J. P. and Axie Miller, was born at Independence, Iowa, Nov. 20, 1859 and died at the home of her daughter at Stanley, Iowa, May 17, 1925. She was married to Isaiah Floyd and to this union six children were born, one, Claire, dying at the age of nine months. The living are Walton C. of Amarilla, Texas, Lee Courtland of Kansas City, Harold of Tacoma, Washington, and Bly, now Mrs. Guy Miller. Also three sisters, Mrs. J. E. Logan, Mrs. C. W. Ladd and Mrs. B. W. Martin of Aurora; her two brothers, C. W. and J. P. Miller of Tacoma, Washington. All were present at the funeral except the two brothers. She also left five grandchildren, two nieces and four nephews, aside many friends.

The deceased was a life long member of the M. E. church. She was a devoted mother and friend to all. She had traveled quite extensively and made many friends wherever she went.

The funeral was held at the home of her daughter and at the Methodist church in Oelwein, conducted by Rev. A. W. Henke, assisted by Rev. Shumaker of Hazleton. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: The four sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Will Wise of Moline, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. John Norris of Strawberry Point, Mr. and Mrs. Will Dunlap of Jesup, Mrs. J. H. McGill, Mrs. Roy McGill, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ketner, Mrs. Fred Finch, Mrs. Buck, Mrs. Sawyer, Mrs. Corllis of Independence. Most of these are life long friends and aside from those named were many from Aurora and Stanley. The Maple Grove church of which she was a member, attended in a body. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors. The burial was at the Otsego cemetery by the side of her granddaughter, who she dearly loved.
