Edward F. Olmstead was born in Orange county, New York, July 24, 1851 and died in Oelwein Iowa, April 26, 1914, aged 62 years, 9 months and 2 days.

His father died when he was thirteen years of age. In 1865 he came with his widowed mother, brother and sister, to Independence, Iowa, where he worked at the cooper's trade. After several years spent at the bench he went into the creamery business. On giving up this work he went into the shops where he labored faithfully till growing weakness made it impossible longer perform his tasks.

December 24, 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Sadie F. Banghart in Oelwein. Their married life has been an especially happy one. He united with the Baptist church about fourteen years ago. For many months he has been in failing health but continued his work up to January 22, 1913 when he was forced to retire from active duty. Since last November he has not been able to walk down town. His decline has been rapid from that time. Recently he was removed from his home in West Oelwein to the home of his brother-in-law Edward Hanson where he might receive better care through the assistance of loving friends. He was able to be around the house till last Wednesday when he was forced to take to his bed. Mr. Olmstead was a member of the Modern Woodman order.

His mother passed away in 1888 and his brother preceded him in death eight years ago. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife and his sister, Mrs. H. W. Damon, besides a large circle of relatives and friends. He was kind and loving husband and a true friend and neighbor.
