Martin Green

Funeral services for Martin Green were held Sunday, Dec. 21 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church at Elgin. The Rev. Richard Kretzschmar officiated. The soloist was Arthur Amundson and the organist was Norine Kretzschmar. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. interment was in the Monona Cemetery.

Martin Lewis Green, son of Asa and Augusta (Martins) Green was born July 4, 1912 at Hopkinton, IA. He died Dec. 18, 1986 in Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, WI

He attended schools in the Hopkinton area. He spent most of his life farming. On March 3, 1932 he married Gladys Herzog. They had 2 sons. They farmed for 7 years in the St. Olaf area. Gladys died Oct. 31, 1972.

On Jan. 4, 1975, he married Sophie Doughty at Elgin. They have lived in Clermont for the past 12 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gladys, a brother, John and a sister, Leone Foster.

Surviving are his wife, Sophie, sons, Lewis of Elkader and Loren of Postville, 1 step-son, Henry Follett of Clermont, 4 step-daughters: Lorraine (Mrs. Kenton Krueger) of Elgin; Betty (Mrs. William Andres) of Sanibel, FL; Marilyn (Mrs. Edward Waters) of Overland Park, KS and Carolyn (Mrs. Larry Schatz) of Lewistown, PA; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, a brother, Clark of Oelwein, 3 sisters: Frances Kauk of Anderson, CA, Louise Huggins of Knoxville, IA and Lorna DeKeyrel, Batavia, IL.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elgin and the Masonic Lodge No. 160 of Clermont and the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 238 of Postville.

Casketbearers were David, Scott, Craig and Gary Green, Kurt Krueger, Steven and Daniel Follett, Kevin Schatz, David Hexom and Sam Roberts.
